As we begin our move into the second half of the year here at Franklin Middle School, we are also still making many new and exciting changes. We have been working very closely to make improvements that will benefit our school and make us one of the greatest middle schools in the state.
Here are a few highlights for the school year: we started the year off with moving away from the Everyday Math program to Go Math. The children and staff are adjusting nicely to the changes. Now as we enter the second half of the year, everyone is used to the new vocabulary in the Go Math program. Things are moving quickly and we are observing nice improvements on assessment scores with the change. One of the biggest changes occurred at our first Math Meet. We tied for first place with Gilford. The children and advisors have done an excellent job. Keep it up everyone.
We will be starting the Smarter Balanced Testing with the fourth graders on March 16th. The 5th graders will start on March 29th. The 6th graders will begin on April 6th. The final group of 7th graders will begin on April 14th. It takes about a week to do an entire grade level. We would recommend that every child get a good night sleep and breakfast every day. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Schrader or Mrs. Smith in the guidance department.
We have started offering after school tutoring to our students again this year. If you are interested in having your child participate in this program please call the school for more information.
The ski program enjoyed the mountain on Thursday nights for the past several months. It has been an interesting mix of weather and conditions. The children had fun along with our chaperones. We look forward to a better season next year.
We would like to see a stronger presence at our monthly PTO meetings. They are held on the second Monday of the month starting at 6:00PM in the library. Hope to see you there.
The third grade transition process will be starting on April 4th. During the day administration will be visiting the students at Paul Smith School. On that evening we will be hosting an open house and tour to the parents and children of the third grade from 6 to 7PM. We also have our Student Leadership going to visit the children on Thursday April 14th. We will be available on Friday April 15th to give tours of the school to third grade parents from 9 to 10AM.
It seems strange to start planning end of the year events already but June is just around the corner. There will be a step up day for the seventh graders on May 27th. They will be bused to FHS. They will get a tour and brief introduction into the high school. The 7th graders will be having a semi-formal on June 3rd from 7 to 9PM. The graduation will now be on June 15th at 6:00 PM. The date moved due to the snow day we had this year. The annual BBQ will be on June 7th. The last day of school is currently Monday, June 20th with a dismissal at noon. Also we will have our final Honor/Sports Assembly at 9:00 on the last day of school.
