Student Assistance Program
Student Assistance
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a free, voluntary, confidential program offered throughout the Franklin School District. There are three full-time Student Assistance Counselors available to assist students at Franklin High School. The program is funded through a federal grant to reduce alcohol abuse. Counselors assist students in dealing with all the life issues that may interfere with their ability to be focused and prepared to do their best each day at school. Although the focus of SAP is on alcohol and drug use prevention, Student Assistance is a safe place to talk about whatever is going on.
Individual Meetings
Student Assistance Counselors are available to all students. Students can make an appointment to come in and talk privately with a counselor about anything that may be bothering them. Counselors are also available to intervene with any crisis that may arise at the school. In addition, teachers, administrators and parents who have concerns may refer students to the program.
Groups
The Student Assistance Program also offers group meetings for students with similar issues. Different groups are offered each semester. Students can sign up for groups or make an appointment to decide which group might be right for them. Some of the groups that are offered are anger management, healthy relationships, quit smoking, family support, alcohol and drug prevention and school support.
Family Meetings
Student Assistance Counselors are also available as neutral adults to help the family communicate during times of trouble. In addition to mediation, we are also available to parents who have concerns about their children and would like to refer their child to meet with a counselor. Student Assistance Counselors also are available to provide information to parents around issues that might be affecting their child.
Other Services
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is a student prevention group that is facilitated through the Student Assistance Program. SAP was also instrumental in forming and advising SWAT (Students Working Against Trouble), Franklin High School's peer leadership team. Student Assistance has also organized and planned Franklin High School's all night Chem-Free After Prom Party, which is currently in it's third year.
