GAME AGAINST EPPING AWAY: The Golden Tornadoes would erase a season opening loss to
Epping on the road with a 33-0 victory over the defending State Champions from
Newport at Roger Martin Field. The Tornado defense led by linebackers Brian
Pickowicz, Brian Baca, Kody Benwell, and Kyle Hennessey would allow Newport a
total of 85 yards on the day. Franklin would only surrender 4 first downs on
the day. The defense would start the day off by forcing a Newport turnover on
their first offensive series. Ian Jipson and Kyle Hennessey would combine on
the play. The Tornado offense led by Senior QB Connor Smith would take just
five plays to punch it in from 32 yards out. The drive would be capped off by a
4 yard QB keeper from 4 yards out. The Tornadoes would miss their extra point
try for a 6-0 first quarter lead. The Tigers would go three and out on their
next possession and Franklin would drive to the Newport goal line. Newport
would turn the Tornadoes away at the end of the first quarter leaving the score
Franklin 6 Newport 0 at the end of one quarter. In the 2nd quarter,
Korey Parent would score from 2 yards out. The Tornadoes would miss
their two point conversion attempt. Franklin would take a 12-0 lead into
the half. The defense would hold Newport to 1 first down in the first half. Opening
the third quarter, Newport would establish its first drive. Driving to the
Franklin 25 yard line. The Tornadoes would respond by taking control of the
game. Korey Parent and Sixto Garcia would lead the way out of the backfield
behind the blocking of Gagne, Gagnon, Turner, McLean, Bass, Jipson and Dow.
Parent would finish off a drive with a yard touchdown run. Parent would then
cap off the drive with a 2 point conversion to give Franklin a 20-0 lead. Early
in the 4th quarter, Parent would get outside of the Newport defense
for a 41 yard touchdown run down the Newport sideline. Fellow Sophomore,
Brandon Butterworth would kick the extra point for a 27-0 lead. Following a inadvertent on-side kick, the Tornadoes would drive the remaining 49 yards in 3
plays. Sixto Garcia would have a 30 yard run followed up by a 15 yard touchdown
run by Brian Pickowicz. The Tornadoes would take a knee on the extra point. The
Tornadoes would gain 403 yards rushing on 49 carries on the afternoon.
Sophomore Korey Parent would have 27 carries for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns on
the afternoon. Senior Sixto Garcia would account for 152 yards on 13 carries,
and Senior Brian Pickowicz would have 4 carries for 21 yards and a touchdown,
Gagnon and Smith would account for the remainder of the rushing yards. Connor
Smith would be 4 for 8 passing for 40 yards. The Tornadoes now 1-1 host 2-0
Gilford at Roger Martin field next Saturday.
Game Against Raymond at Home: The Golden Tornadoes improved to 3-1 on the
season with a convincing 39-0 victory over Raymond at Roger Martin Field. The
Tornadoes Chris Gagne would recover a Raymond fumble on the first play from
scrimmage, four plays later, the Tornadoes would score their first touchdown
with less than 2 minutes off the game clock. Connor Smith would connect with
Gagne for an 11 yard touchdown strike, Brandon Butterworth would connect
on the extra point for a 7-0 Tornado lead.The
Tornadoes would not waste any time finding the end zone. Korey Parent would find
pay dirt twice in the first quarter on runs of 72 and 24 yards. Sixto Garcia
would find the end zone on a 54 yard run and a 62 yard punt return for a score.
Brandon Butterworth would add 2 more PAT's and the Tornadoes would hold a
commanding 33-0 lead at the end of first quarter on 8 offensive plays.The Tornadoes would close out the scoring with 10
minutes remaining in the second quarter on a Jake Jameson 30 yard touchdown
run. The Tornadoes would take a knee on the extra point. Franklin would take a
39-0 lead into halftime.Bruce Carry would
take over as Quarterback in the second quarter, Isaiah Muniz would take over at
Tailback and Tony Dean would enter the game at Fullback. The trio would account
for over 100 yards rushing for the remainder of the game.The Tornadoes defense was equally as impressive.
Brian Pickowicz and Kody Benwell would lead a staunch defense that would only
surrender 1 first down on the day. Franklin is
now 3-1 on the season travel to Farmington Saturday for a 3pm game against the
Tigers. Division VI is very competitive with 7 teams eyeing the playoffs. GAME AGAINST GILFORD: The Golden Tornadoes would shut
down the best ground attack in the state lead by Murphy of Gilford. Murphy had
rushed for over 680 yards in two games and scored 10 touchdowns in two weeks
prior to facing the Tornadoes. The Tornado defense spearheaded by Brian
Pickowicz, Mike McClean and many others would hold Murphy to 26 yards rushing on
15 carries. The Tornado defensive line consisted of Chris Gagne, Josh
Lafrance, Mike McLean, and Ian Jipson were in the backfield most of the day.
Linebackers Pickowicz (1 Interception), Brian Baca, Kody Benwell, and Kyle
Hennessey would keep the Gilford backs in check while the secondary comprised of
Jake Jameson, Jon Adams, and Sixto Garcia would cover Gilford
receivers. The Tornadoes would hold the explosive Gilford offense to
under 100 yards, 25% of their total in each of their previous two
games. Equally impressive was the Golden Tornado offense, lead by Connor
Smith, Sixto Garcia, Korey Parent, Brian Pickowicz, Kurt Swett, Brandon Gagnon
in the backfield, while Mike McLean, Dylan Turner, Zach Bass, Kyle Dow, Ian
Jipson, and Chris Gagne would open the holes in the trenches. The Tornadoes
would amass over 400 yards total offense for the 2nd week in row. Brian
Pickowicz would ignite the Tornado attack with an electrifying 80 counter from
the Golden Tornado's 17 yard line. Brandon Gagnon would cap off the 3 play
drive with a 3 dive, the Tornadoes would take an early 6-0 first quarter
lead. Following a botched half back option pass which resulted in an
interception, Gilford's Murphy would close out a 3 play Gilford drive from the
Tornadoes 11 yard line. The Gilford extra point would be good for a 7-6 Gilford
lead. Gilford's lead would only last minutes as the three pronged attack
of Pickowicz, Garcia and Parent would explode on the next two possession with
Garcia closing out each of the drives and tacking on two two point
conversions. Gilford would drive near the Tornado end zone late in the
2nd period, the drive would end with a Pickowicz interception. The 2nd
half would see a continuation of the Tornado ground game chewing up yardage.
This time Connor Smith would finish off a Tornado drive with a three yard
scamper into the end zone pushing the Tornado lead to 28-7. Midway
through the 4th quarter, Korey Parent would finish a Tornado drive with a nifty
25 yard dash into the end zone to increase the lead, Brandon Butterworh would add
the extra point, to push the total to 35-7. Gilford would respond with a
49 yard pass play to Ronnie Bean, who would add the extra point to trail
35-14. The Tornadoes would respond with a three play drive capped off by
a 27 yard dash by Connor Smith and a Butterworth extra point to close out the
scoring at 42-14. The Tornadoes are home this weekend for homecoming
against Raymond High School. GAME AGAINST FARMINGTON: Franklin improved to 4-1 on the
season with a 36-0 victory in the rain. The Tornadoes would score on their first
possession on 5 plays with Korey Parent scoring from 11 yards out. They would
fail to convert on the PAT. Franklin's Kyle Hennessey would jar the
ball lose from a Farmington return man on the ensuing kick. Korey Parent would
scoop up the fumble and rambled 30 yards for an apparent score. The play was
ruled dead at the spot Korey recovered the ball due to a muff instead of a
fumble. Four plays later, Connor Smith would find Sixto Garcia in the
end zone for a 5 yard touchdown pass. The two would convert on the extra point
to make it 14-0. Following another Franklin stop on Farmington's next
possession, Brian Pickowicz would take his first carry of the game 43 yards for
a touchdown. Korey Parent would add the two point conversion for a 22-0 fist
quarter lead. Franklin's Korey Parent would score on a 35 yard touchdown
run to increase the Tornado lead to 28-0 before the half. The PAT attempt would
fail. On Franklin's first play of the second half, Korey Parent would
run 65 yards for a Tornado touchdown. Holder Chris Gagne would bubble the snap
and alertly hit Brandon Gagnon for the two point conversion to increase
Franklin's lead to 36-0. On defense, Mike McLean, Josh Lafrance, Ian
Jipson, Chris Gagne, Brian Pickowicz, and Kody Benwell would lead the Tornado
defense which caused 4 turnovers on the day.
GAME AGAINST MASCOMA: The Golden Tornadoes improved to
5-1 with a win over Mascoma Saturday. Franklin's rushing attack
accounted for over 500 yards rushing on the ground. Sixto Garcia would
score on a three yard run to start the scoring. Corey Parent would score the 2
point conversion for an 8-0 lead on their first possession. On
Franklin's next possesion, Garcia would score from 18 yards and score the 2
point conversion for a 16-0 lead. On their next drive, Brian Pickowicz
would find pay dirt up the middle of the field after sampering 25 yards. Brandon
Butterworth would convert the PAT for 23-0 Franklin advantage. Moments
later, Corey Parent would find the end zone on a 20 yard touchdown run. Brandon
Butterworth would convert the extra point for a 30-0 lead. Mascoma would
respond with an excellent drive, eventually throwing a touchdown pass with no
time left on the clock, their QB would roll out and find a wide open receiver in
the left hand corner of the endzone as time expired. They QB would find another
wide open target to convert on the PAT. Franklin would lead 30-8 at
halftime. The Tornadoe's would receive the ball in the 2nd half and
drive the length of the field with Garcia scoring on a 12 yard run. Brandon
Butterworth would add the PAT for a 37-8 advantage. Following an
excellent defensive effort lead by Pickowicz, Kyle Hennessey, and Kody Benwell.
The Tornadoes would drive the length of the field and Joe Yonaitis would score
on a 12 yard run. The Tornadoes would take a knee on the extra point. Franklin
would lead 43-8 at the end of the third quarter. Mascoma would drive
late in the game and score the final touchdown with two minutes left in the game
on a nice counter play. The Tornadoes were led by Sixto Garcia 13
carries 191 yards, Corey Parent 18 carries 175 yard, Brian Pickowicz 6 carries
80 yards, Connor Smith 1 carry 65 yards,Isiaah Muniz 6 carries 26 yards, Joe
Yonaities 2 carries 12 yards, and Brandon Butterworth 3 carries 18
yards. Upfront, the lineman paved the way opening holes all day included
Mike McClean, Dylan Turner, Zach Bass, Kyle Dow, and Ian Jipson. Tight End Chris
Gagne and WB Jon Adams blocked well. The Tornadoes return home this week
for a clash with unbeaten Interlakes-Moultonborough. The two schools have cooped
enabling the Moultonborough School district the ability to play football this
fall.
GAME AGAINST NEWFOUND: The Golden Tornadoes rebounded from their defeat the week before with a 28-0
victory over the Newfound Bears. The Victory knocked Newfound out of the
playoffs and earned the Golden Tornadoes a playoff berth for the 5th time in the
last 7 years. The Tornadoes would score on the first play of the game.
Brian Pickowicz would intercept a pass intended for his Cousin and return the
ball 42 yards for the Tornadoes first defensive score of the season. Brandon
Butterworth would add the extra point for a 7-0 lead with only 11 seconds gone
off the clock. The Tornadoe offense would struggle in the first half,
turning the ball over three times. The defense however would respond again prior
to the end of the first quarter. This time it would be Kyle Hennessy's turn,
picking the ball off and returning it 69 yards for a score. Brandon Butterworth
would add the extra point and the Tornadoes would lead 14-0 at
halftime. In the third quarter, the offense would take the kick off and
drive 70 yards in 6 minutes, Brian Pickowicz would cap off the 10 play drive
with a 10 yard touchdown run off the left side. Brandon Butterworth would add
the extra point for a 21-0 lead. Korey Parent would enter the game at
tailback late in the third quarter. Parent would attack the line of scrimmage
and gained 10 yards per carry almost breaking two long runs before finally
crossing the goal line on a 12 yard run off the left side. Brandon Butterworth
would add the extra point for a 28-0 lead. From there, the Tornadoes
defense would do the rest. Ian Jipson would have the hit of the day, laying a
bone crushing hit on the Newfound Quarterback as he tried to run the option, the
pitch would be wide and end up as a 12 yard loss for Newfound. Other players
contributing on defense were Pickowicz, Joey Yonaitis, Cody Benwell, Chris
Gagne, Mike McClean, Hennessy, Joah Lafrance, Jon Adams, Sixto Garcia, and Jake
Jameson. On offense, Brian Pickowicz made his first start at Quarterback
and led the Tornadoes to victory. Sam Barry made his first start at Tight End on
varsity and blocked well. The Tornadoes conclude the regular season next
Saturday at Winnisquam. A victory will match the Tornadoes regular season record
of 7-2 from the 2010 season. GAME AGAINST WINNISQUAM: Franklin's defense held Winnisquam to one first down until their
last drive of the game in the 4th quarter. Sixto Garcia would carry the
ball 15 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns.Brian Pickowicz would
carry the ball 13 times for 85 yards and a score. Connor Smith would
carry the ball twice for 6 yards and a score. He would also complete 2 of 4 for
70 yards to Chris Gagne. Kory Parent would have 7 carries for 24
yards. Joey Yonaitis would open the 4th quarter with a 72 yard scamper
for a score. Brandon Butter worth would be 4-4 on extra points with one
missed snap. Cody Benwell would intercept a pass. Chris Gagne would
record 3 sacks, McClean would record 2, and Brian Pickowicz would record 4
tackles for losses. The defense would also recover 2 fumbles. Winnisquam
would score a defensive touchdown with two minutes remaining in the
game. The Tornadoes will travel to Epping next weekend for their
SemiFinal matchup. Franklin lost to Epping in the opening game of the season
22-14 on the road. The winner of the rematch will be heading to the State
Championship against the winner of the Newport at Interlakes semifinal
game. SEMI-GAME AGAINST EXETER: The Golden Tornadoes lost a hard fought Semi Final Game at Exeter
High School Saturday. The Tornadoes would make an early special teams error
which would put them behind 2-0 early. Then the Tornadoes would suffer their
only defensive break down of the day two series later and Epping would lead 9-0
at the end of the first quarter. From their, the Tornadoes offense would
move the ball down the field before the half on a long drive only to turn the
ball over on downs in Epping territory. The Tornadoes would receive the
second half kick off and drive the ball to the Epping 25 yard line before losing
the ball on downs again, this time Franklin's Brian Pickowicz would be
approximately 2 inches short of the critical first down. The Tornadoes
defense which played an awesome game lead by Pickowicz, Cody Benwell, Kyle
Hennessy, Josh Lafrance, Mike McClean, and Jon Adams. In the third quarter, the
defense would shut down Epping and Franklin would control the ball for over 9
minutes of the quarter. After an excellent defensive effort, Franklin
would begin another drive in their own territory, this time the drive would
bring the Tornadoes down to the Epping 3 yard line, their Epping would put on a
great goal line stand. On fourth and goal, Connor Smith dropped back and threw
an excellent ball to Chris Gagne, the ball was just inches out of his grasp.
Smith had hit Gagne over the middle who made a spectacular catch on a 40 yard
pass in the third quarter. Smith, who threw the ball well also had completions
to Pickowicz, Sixto Garcia, and Korey Parent. Sixto Garcia would lead a
rejuvinated ground game in the third quarter following the blocking of Zach
Bass, Mike McClean, Dylan Turner, and Ian Jipson. Parent also ran well on the
day. The Tornadoes finish their season 7-3 for the second year in a row.
